In his work, Janos Schaefer investigates the flickering ridge between aesthetics and ideology. Taking the role of the trickster and charlatan, the dandy and daddy. He mimetically reproduces and slightly pushes visual fragments of pop and idyll over their tipping points towards folk and horror. Thus he manages to surf occurring cracks in formerly sleek aesthetic surfaces, cracks that reveal underlying conceptions of subjectivation, happiness and order.
